188 Days and Counting!

by The Urban Survivalist

(Just In... Magnitude 7.6 - OAXACA, MEXICO, 2012 March 20 11:02:48 Pacific Time)

There seems to be a pattern forming between Earthquakes and the shifting of the Polar Axis. Both of these have been on the radar of many of us for some time, but it wasn't until videos started appearing on YouTube that people began to realize the correlation of the two events.

Don't take a gun to a knife fight - take a baseball bat instead

I know this will be an uncomfortable topic for many, but we have to look at things like this to ensure that we are actually prepared. No Prepper likes to think of actually having to defend his loved ones. We try to prepare for it, but we try not to dwell on the subject. The last thing any of us desire is confrontation. But if it comes to you - are you prepared to respond?

World’s First Test-Tube Hamburger to Be Served in 2012

So how, exactly, does one go about creating a test tube burger? First, bovine stem cells are grown in a vat and transformed into thousands of layers of beef muscle cells. The thin layers are then minced and mixed with animal fat, also lab-grown, to form a ball of meat — or something like it. (read more...)

I think this takes the phrase "Mystery Meat" to a whole new level. What ever happened to "Dolly" the Sheep? Did they decide to skip that step and go straight to the Lamb Chops? Wow! This makes TVP sound so much better. I think what they'll really be breeding is a new generation of Vegetarians.

Project Growmore

If you've been to the Growmore Hydroponics web page, you may have noticed that we are working on a new project. Normally, a project of this type starts out with a need, a concept, then a grant or funding of some sort.

The need is present and increasing each day. We have the concept, but there is much work to do in order to insure an easy to build and to use system. But we don't have time to wait for grants. Our new system is needed now.

Life has not always been a piece of cake for me, and I know what it's like to go a few days without food, but I've never experienced starvation. Right now, the people of Africa are starving. Long seasons of no rain has left it's toll on the scarcity of food crops. It's appalling to learn that one sixth of the world’s population goes to bed hungry. And each year, 1 million children die from severe acute malnutrition.

A Preppers Review of "The Walking Dead"

Now in it's second season, The Walking Dead has become one of America's favorite TV Shows. To be honest, I had not watched the show because I really don't think we need to worry about a sudden Zombie infestation, but after giving it some thought I figured I might be able to glean some tips on Survival even if they were Hollywood tips.

So True!

What is a Prepper?

Many have a misconception when it comes to the group of people known as "Preppers". They think of people running around in camo fatigues, carrying assult rifles and living off the land. Nothing could be further from the reality. I searched the Internet, looking for a good distinction between "Preppers" and "Survivalist". Then I came across an article on the "American Preppers Network". This does a good job of discribing the differences between the two.

2012 - Then What?

It was 1998, the fear of a global technological break down was on the minds of many.  Social and economic collapse was to be the outcome of what was known as Y2K.

For many of us, this was our beginning into the life of Preppers.  Food, guns, ammo, medical supplies - these were but a few of the areas that people tried to make sure they had adequately prepared for.  Until this time most of these items were only known to those who enjoyed the outdoors, such as backpackers and hunters.  But it didn't take long before pantries, across the US, were becoming stocked with long-term, dry food items.

Mutant Zombie Bikers… Is there hope?

Prepper Nation.com has a lot of good articles.  They should definitely be one of your bookmarks.  I really enjoyed this particular article, written by Prepper.

Life had become very decadent over the last years before this final breakdown occurred. The government’s previous emergency actions to save all of us had barely succeeded and the party continued on but alas no longer would. It wasn’t as if this eventual complete breakdown wasn’t seen coming, it was! You had seen it coming from far down the road and made preparations for what could only be a fiery crash.
