Blackout in Chile - the worst is yet to come

A shot time ago, over 1/3 of Chile experienced a power outage.  This loss of electricity is said to be affecting five Regions, so far.  The power outage took place at 8:30 (Chile time) and is centered on the Central Interconnected System.  According to Reuters News, the electricity has been restored to most of the effected areas.

This blackout covers such a large area that it dwarfs last week's power failure experienced in the Southwest United States.

News coming out of this area are slow, but one unverified report said that telephone communications have also been effected.

This falls on the heels of the report, earlier this evening, that our Sun had been experiencing X Class solar flares.  The X Class Solar Flares have a history of doing great damage to the power grids.

Approximate Flare Start : 24-09-2011 1636 UT

The only problem is that the main effects from this Solar Storm has not fully arrived yet.  If this is any indication, then the worst is yet to come!
